About this course

This course is a brief overview of challenges that people who have dementia face every day.   Explaining the challenges helps us to gain a better understanding of what they are experiencing.  Resident-centered approaches to working with people who have dementia are described and real world examples are used.  The technique of using validation is also discussed.

  • Ensure staff provide resident-centered care based on thorough knowledge of each person’s abilities and needs.
  • To help staff act as “care partners” to help people achieve optimal functioning and improved quality of life.
  • To use a flexible, problem-solving approach to care designed to prevent problems before they occur.
